About the role

The Senior Portfolio Manager owns the entire post-investment life of the portfolio – value creation, capital structure, governance and, above all, the engineering of exits – across our positions.

We are looking for a driven and motivated self-starter who can sit with founders and start-up teams, build a credible plan to a liquidity event and execute it: identify the buyer universe, prepare the asset, run the process, negotiate the terms and bring the cash home. You will also need to be able to identify if a position might not reach its expected outcome, and to design the restructuring, secondary, recapitalisation or orderly wind-down that protects the most value.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain a value creation plan for every material position.

• Work directly with founders and management on the levers that move enterprise value.

• Drive follow-on decisions with a clear view of ownership, dilution, the preference stack and the effect on the eventual exit waterfall.

• Own the exit roadmap.

• Map and cultivate buyers and secondary-market relationships across Africa, the Gulf, the UK and the US.

• Prepare assets for sale and run or oversee the process end to end.

• Own the investment register and the documentation behind it.

What we're looking for

• Five to eight years in private equity, venture capital, growth investing, M&A or a combination of investing and senior operating roles, with a personal record of leading exits from start to close.

• Direct experience of African markets, ideally Nigeria, and of what realising value there actually involves.

• Strong command of valuation, cap table mechanics, preference stacks, waterfall analysis and deal documentation. 

• A proven ability to work with founders in difficult situations and to keep both the relationship and the value intact.

• A network of relevant acquirers and later-stage or secondary investors across Africa, and in at least one of the Gulf, the UK or the US.

• Board-ready communication.
