About the role

Octerra takes on a small number of corps members each year, as their Place of Primary Assignment for the service year, across three parts of the firm. Whichever stream you join, you will be given work the firm depends on and will be creating tangible value for Octerra.

Operations – what you'll do

• Support the day-to-day running of the firm: scheduling, travel, supplier coordination, and office logistics.

• Maintain internal records and shared drives so that documents, templates, and files can be found by the people who need them.

• Prepare materials for internal meetings, quarterly investor updates, and firm-wide sessions, and take and circulate minutes.

• Support finance operations, including invoice tracking, expense records, and the investor payment schedule.

• Support onboarding administration, from recruitment logistics to new-joiner setup.

• Take on process improvement projects: find the things the firm still does by hand every month, and help build a better way.

Compliance – what you'll do

• Support KYC and anti-money-laundering checks on counterparties, investors, and portfolio companies, and keep the records that evidence them.

• Maintain the compliance register, policy library, and training log, and track when each item next falls due for review.

• Help monitor the firm's obligations under Nigerian and UK requirements, including data protection under the NDPA, and flag changes that affect us.

• Support the preparation of compliance reporting to the board and to investors.

• Assist with contract administration: execution status, filing and renewal dates across the firm's agreements.

• Support the firm's AI governance framework, including usage logs, policy adherence, and periodic review.

Investment – what you'll do

• Screen inbound and sourced companies, and draft first-pass summaries of what they do, the market they sit in, and whether they meet our criteria.

• Build market maps and competitive landscapes across our focus verticals, and keep them current as sectors move.

• Support the Investment Analysts on diligence workstreams: market sizing, competitor benchmarking, comparable company analysis, and reference call notes.

• Help build and sense-check financial models, and pressure-test the assumptions underneath them.

• Contribute research and analysis into screening memos and investment committee materials.

• Track the macroeconomic and sector developments that affect the portfolio and the pipeline, and write them up for the team.

• Keep pipeline records, data rooms, and investment process artefacts accurate and current.

What we're looking for

• A graduate awaiting or currently serving NYSC, available for the full period.

• A very strong academic record. 

• Clear written English, and the ability to summarise something complicated without losing the part that matters.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, especially Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

• Comfort with AI tools, and an interest in using them well inside an investment workflow, is a plus.

• Reliability and discretion. Much of what you will see is confidential.

And, depending on your stream:

• Operations: organised by instinct, and comfortable chasing people politely until a thing is done.

• Compliance: an interest or background in law, regulation or risk; patience with detail; and a temperament suited to rules.

• Investment: a genuine interest in African markets and private capital, and the beginnings of financial literacy.
