Company profile

Herconomy is building Nigeria’s digital challenger bank for women, transforming financial inclusion from a policy ambition into scalable, technology-enabled infrastructure. Serving over 100,000 women, the platform combines financial education, high-yield savings, digital lending, and tailored investment products built around the economic realities women face at every life stage. By creating a differentiated financial ecosystem that catalyses wealth creation, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility, Herconomy is proving that serving the underserved is a scalable business.

Why we invested

Picture a woman at her stall in the market. She sells, she saves what she can in a tin or a cooperative, she is trusted by everyone on her row. What she does not have is a bank that sees her, a place to grow her money, or anyone to teach her how. She is not an edge case. In Nigeria, only a third of women hold a bank account, and the gap between women and men did not close over the last decade; it widened. For half of the population, the financial system has simply never been built. Herconomy is being built for her, and for the millions of women the system was never designed to serve.

B2C is a model we approach with caution. Customer acquisition costs tend to eat the margin before a consumer business can scale, which is why these plays so rarely clear our bar. Herconomy is the sole exception, because it has changed how we see consumer fintech in Africa, and the reason is the founder.

Ife built the community before she built the company. Years before there was a product, she had grown a network of women who trusted one another and spoke openly about money, bypassing what is often the largest cost for a fintech. Without that community, we would not have invested. The economics would not have worked. It works now only because Ife had already done the hardest part.

What also moved us was the fact that this is not a distribution channel a competitor can purchase or replicate. It is years of earned trust, and it sits underneath every product the company will ever launch, lowering the cost of reaching each new woman to almost nothing.

This is why we made the exception. The market is vast and deliberately overlooked, the founder understood it long before anyone funded her, and the community she built makes the economics work where it often doesn’t. We backed the one woman who could turn a movement into a bank, and the women she is bringing with her.
