Why we invested

A shipment leaves the port and then it simply disappears. Not stolen, not lost at sea, just swallowed by the gap between one logistics provider and the next. Untracked, unfinanced, unaccounted for, until months have passed and the goods and the money tied up in them are both gone. This is not a rare disaster in African trade. It is an ordinary Tuesday. Moving a container across an African border can cost more and take longer than shipping it from the other side of the world, because nine separate vendors, from the truck driver to the customs broker to the ship agent, work in sequence with almost no visibility between them. Trade drives the continent’s growth, and it runs on a road full of holes. Jetstream is paving it.

This is not merely a Ghanaian problem, nor is it only an African one. Every emerging market trades across the same kind of broken, manual, paper-bound supply chains, which is why the prize for us here is measured not in one corridor but in the whole of the developing world's commerce. That is the part that moved us. 

What sharpened our conviction was how tightly Jetstream binds finance to logistics. A small trader lands an order they cannot afford to fulfil, and Jetfinance advances the working capital to make the trade happen. But the reason it can lend where banks will not is that Jetvision is watching the cargo the whole way, giving Jetstream real-time visibility over the very goods its loan is secured against. It finances the trade and oversees it at once, so the capital never moves out of sight of the goods. This niche innovation is what makes the model work, and what convinced us.

We backed Jetstream because unlocking trade means rebuilding the infrastructure beneath it, not lending on top of a broken system. The technology is proprietary, the model is built to cross whole regions rather than a single border, and the founder left a great deal behind to be certain it gets built.
