Company profile
Finvar is a data intelligence system enabling financial institutions and asset managers to navigate increasingly complex, fast-moving markets. Its core platform, Capnote, aggregates and structures complex financial data, automating reporting and sharpening risk oversight through real-time, AI-driven insights.
Why we invested
For more than two decades inside corporate and investment banking, Ikenna watched the same waste repeat. Some of the sharpest, most expensive people in finance spent their days not deciding, but assembling. Pulling numbers from a dozen systems, cleaning them, stitching them together, and only then, exhausted, reaching the judgement that was actually their job. He did not read about this problem in a report. He lived it, daily, for years, until he knew with unusual precision exactly which parts of the system were broken and what it would take to fix them. Then he left to go and build it.
Financial data aggregation and reporting is the kind of work that no one wants to write headlines about, but is essential to how every fund, family office and asset manager operates. Problems like this don't go out of fashion, and they aren't winner-take-all races for attention. They are simply always there, in every institution, every day. Solve one properly and you become very hard to remove. The demand is sticky because the need never goes away.
Nigeria, like much of the world, has been moving steadily towards a better, more internationally compliant financial system; one that cannot be built on spreadsheets and stitched-together tools. Finvar builds the infrastructure that lets institutions handle their data with the rigour a modern, compliant system demands, with compliance built into the foundations rather than bolted on later.
On top of all of this, the timing sealed this investment for us. Ikenna built Finvar before the generative-AI wave, on foundations grounded in how institutions operate rather than on hype. He then moved quickly to fold AI into a process that already worked, improving something already built rather than scrambling onto a trend. That is our conviction, in full: a universal, unavoidable problem; a founder who has lived it; and a product that was right early and has only sharpened since.
