Company profile

As industrialisation accelerates and climate pressures mount, global energy demand and the costs of managing it are rising fast. Wattnow provides an innovative smart energy management solution built for companies and factories in hard-to-abate sectors, giving them granular visibility into energy consumption alongside historical and predictive analytics to optimise usage, cut costs, and lower their carbon footprint.

Why we invested

Buildings and industry account for over two-thirds of the world's energy use, and the International Energy Agency calls energy efficiency “the first fuel”, the cheapest and cleanest energy on earth, because it is simply the energy we never burn. Yet most industrial operators waste up to a third of theirs, for the simple reason that they cannot see where it goes. Making that visible is exactly what Issam and Malek built Wattnow to do.

Three things convinced us of this idea: the global regulatory landscape, the tech, and the impact. Wattnow was built in Tunisia, which has legally required larger companies to undergo periodic energy audits since 2005. Across the Gulf and wider MENA, national net-zero commitments are pushing heavy industry the same way. In Europe, large industrial emitters face binding obligations to measure and disclose their energy use and emissions, and carbon-border costs. This creates a global market already primed by regulation to measure and cut consumption, on a strained grid running almost entirely on imported gas.

On the tech, Wattnow's sensors now generate over a billion data points a month across more than 500 industrial sites on three continents. The system that learns to spot waste, benchmark machines and forecast demand only sharpens the more real-world consumption it ingests. That granular, cross-sector, hard-to-replicate dataset is the kind of advantage that compounds quietly while competitors are still installing their first meters.

And then there is the impact, which is the part we keep returning to. Efficiency is the single largest lever the world has on emissions, and it is the one most often left unpulled, because the waste is invisible. Every site Wattnow makes visible cuts real energy and real carbon at once, and it does so in the heaviest, always-on industries. The banks telecoms, factories and utilities an economy cannot switch off. Achieving this impact in a commercially viable way is always a priority for us.

Ultimately, we backed Wattnow for the mix of a beneficial regulatory landscape, continuously improving tech and the high potential to mitigate climate change. It’s simply a great business with great potential.
