Company profile
AfriMillions is building Africa’s first transnational lottery, consolidating a fragmented market into a single, secure, scalable platform with fair draw mechanics, compliance and responsible gaming safeguards. As a fully licensed operator, it launched in its first market, Nigeria, with a mobile-first, omni-channel digital lottery and gaming service. Its flagship offering is a $1 million weekly progressive mega jackpot alongside a portfolio of daily instant-win games, supported by live, televised draws that underscore the company's commitment to transparency and regulatory oversight.
Why we invested
The average Sub-Saharan African earns roughly $1,500 a year. AfriMillions' opening jackpot was $1 million.
When we met with AfriMillions, what left an impression was not their pitch deck so much as their overall vision and the deep understanding of the space they are operating in. David and Abi bring to the table an immense level of experience, accented by a tremendous understanding of the market, whilst holding a network of relationships spanning gaming regulators, distribution infrastructure, and B2B lottery technology across multiple African markets. This kind of access usually takes several years to build, yet here they were with said access capable of moving their idea from concept to continent.
There is currently no continental-scale Pan-African lottery. AfriMillions is built to be the first. It is a question of digital infrastructure, not of capacity. It is a single technology platform that leverages licences in countries across Africa, tokenises each ticket so it can be bought fractionally, and runs over USSD and mobile data to not only create more opportunities but also the digital infrastructure that allows Africa its first mega lottery. The tokenised ticket model is particularly interesting to us. It allows groups of players to co-own a single ticket, which extends that reach to anyone with a phone and a dollar, regardless of income level.
The timing was also on our side. When we invested, there was a regulatory inflection point across Africa for this sector of the gaming industry, making the rules more favourable and viable for us. It was a mix of the right founders, the right infrastructure, and the right moment arriving all at once.
